This is a AXXIS TECHNICIAN positions based in LESOTHO. The purpose of the job is to liaise with customers to establish their needs for AXXIS products and services, and to ensure that these are provided at the right time and right place. Responsible for providing blasting services which will include responsibilities for priming, loading, stemming, and testing and, after the execution of the blast by the Blaster, assess the work and report accordingly.

Previous surface mining blasting experience (2 Years)

Understanding and previous use of the AXXIS system (2 Years)

Bilingual (especially English)

Normal colour vision Medically fit and physically active At least “average” intellectual functioning Prepared to travel (inside and outside South Africa) and sleep away from home

Code 8 driver’s licence Valid passport (or eligible for obtaining a passport)

Coordination and scheduling of customers orders

Responsible for building and maintaining relationships with customers with the view of maximising position in the market

On an ongoing basis, required to make contact with customers so as to remain aware of their products needs Blasting preparation and execution

Prior to the blast taking place, required to take photographs of the bench area that will be blasted which will be used to make pre and post blast comparisons

On the day before the blast, responsible for checking and ensuring that all blasting equipment is clean and in proper working order

In the event of detecting any problems with the equipment, required to contact the AXXIS Product Manager to make arrangements for rectifying or replacing the equipment

On the day of the blast (together with the customer) required to be present to check the delivery of the blasting equipment and to ensure that it is correct in all respects

At the blasting bench, required to inspect and assess the area including ground conditions and the presence of water

At the blasting bench, responsible for checking and ensuring that that the priming and loading process is carried out in line with the procedures and standards that have been laid down

Required to monitor and check that the stemming of holes is carried out in line with the procedures and standards that have been laid down and, especially, to check that cables are not damaged

After the stemming of the holes, responsible for the wiring of the EDD connections (or observing and checking that the process is carried out in line with the procedures and standards that have been laid down)  During the course of conducting these duties (or observing and ensuring that the correct procedures are followed), responsible for the drawing of the Bench Plan of the block noting the number of holes and their positions

Required to draw a wiring diagram on the Bench Plan to ensure that the box with blasting equipment can be positioned in the appropriate (and safe) place

Responsible for monitoring and checking that the actual wiring process is performed and laid out according to the prescriptions of the wiring diagram

Upon completion of the wiring, required to engage in the testing procedure

Prior to testing, responsible for checking and ensuring he, all the personnel, vehicles and other equipment are at a safe distance from the blast area

In the event of detecting any damage or problems, required to perform fault finding actions to isolate the problem and verifying the holes charged in the bench using a field tester during binary searching

Take the necessary corrective actions to rectify the problem, for example, replacing damaged surface cables with new replacement spools

Upon the satisfactory completion of these tests, develops the timing design of the blast Does he physically calculate the timing of the blast between holes and between rows?

Required to plan the blast on computer using “BlastmapIII” software

Adds the wiring diagram and timing design of the blast on the plan (In the case of more complex blasts, required to send the plan to the Operations Manager for perusal and authorisation)

Exports the timing sequence to the field logger

Prior to the blast being executed, (after the mine has created a “safe distance” area) will proceed to the blast control point which has previously been demarcated

When assured that the pit has been cleared performs the following actions from the Blast Control Point: performs calibration, charges the capacitors, and conducts a status check to confirm the functionality of the detonators. – Upon getting the instruction from the legally appointed official to perform the blast, performs the final calibration, arms the blasting box, and then performs the blast – After the completion of the blast, performs a final check of the blasting boxes and inspects the blast scene, take photographs, and assures himself that the work had been performed in accordance with the customer’s expectations – If dissatisfaction is expressed by the customer, will report the issue to the Operations Manager for further actions – Required to prepare a Blast Report for submission to the Operations Manager. This report will contain all the parameters of the blast including, among other things, description of the bench, rows, holes, spacing, explosive and accessory specifications, pre-blast and blasting procedures, pre and post blast photographs – Required to act as coach to AXXIS Trainees in order to assist them in mastering the job and progressing in their careers – In this process, required to question and test the Trainee on the various modules that Trainees have to master – Provide on-the-job learning opportunities to Trainees, coach them and to provide them with performance feedback
